The location is on the fourth floor of a historical building in Yokohama
which was built as an apartment for international people in 1930.
It is a living space which was made to resemble foreign architectural themes
while keeping a feel of Japanese modernist architecture.
The space maintains a “Western” feel until one opens the crawl-through door
which leads to a 4.5 tatami mat tea ceremony room.
This is something of an inversion of the history of Yokohama,
in which the city imported all manner of new, foreign cultures from overseas and fused them together.
We hope that this space can serve as a place to take a new look at “things” in the midst of this mix of cultures.
The mud walls use clay from the pottery producing regions of Tajimi and Shigaraki.
